Between exploring Menomonie, learning about all that the UW-Stout campus has to offer, and getting settled into my research project, this first week has gone by very quick. Menomonie is a great place to be. It is right on Lake Menomin, which provides plenty of great views. UW-Stout is a nicely organized campus which has made it easy to get accustomed to. Every faculty member that I have met has been excited to meet me and eager to help out. During the first week, we actually accomplished a lot. We got the official tour of campus, got to see all of the labs/manufacturing areas that we can take advantage of while working on our projects, and got to meet some specialists in assistive technologies.
Meng and I will be working on a robotic guidance system that will help those who suffer low-vision/blindness navigate in unfamiliar and complicated environments such as offices, University buildings, or the grocery store. Our research will focus around robotic navigation and wireless control. Excited that we are getting going!!
